Pub of the Year 2017
Bowl Inn, Hastingleigh
This year our Branch POTY is The Bowl Inn at Hastingleigh, a good community pub near Wye. It only serves Kentish beers and supports local charities and events. The Bowl Inn is a basic pub sympathetically decorated with advertising memorabilia and has a nice, large garden.
The POTY presentation took place on Saturday 27th May during our minibus visit.
Runner Up
Smugglers' Alehouse, New Romney
One of the current trend of small pubs which are opening up in empty retail outlets with minimum overheads. They sell good quality beers, ciders, limited other alcoholic drinks and soft drinks.
The Smugglers’ Alehouse in New Romney has only been open for a year and has become a local community hub with no music. The emphasis is on customers talking to each other, thereby creating a friendly atmosphere.
The presentation took place on Saturday 10th June.
